Channing Tatum is set to play the role of the mermaid in a remake of Splash, which was a hit role played by Darryl Hannah in the 1984 original film. The Magic Mike star will reportedly be a merman and is set to star alongside Jillian Bell, who previously starred with Tatum in 22 Jump Street.

In the original film, Tom Hanks played the role of a man who was saved from drowning by a mermaid. Ron Howard, who served as director of the original film, will produce the film along with the Magic Mike actor.

The original 1984 film was nominated for an Oscar in the best original screenplay category. The film, which tells a story about whether the main character will remain living on land or go with the mermaid (played by Tatum) in the seas, will be written by Maris Lewis-Ryan.

The remake follows a series of notable remakes, including one for Ghostbusters, the remade all-female version of which was released last month.

Tatum’s most recent acting credits include Hail Caesar!, in which he stars alongside George Clooney and Josh Brolin.

In other news, Finding Dory has topped the box office in the United Kingdom and Ireland, collecting a whopping £8.1 million on its opening weekend.

The film was released 13 years after the original film titled Finding Nemo and tells the story about Dory, Nemo’s mother who has problems with memory.

Dory is voiced by Ellen DeGeneres in the animated children’s film. Jason Bourne, the fifth installment of the Bourne series starring Matt Damon, debuted at number two having earned £7.6 million.

The BFG, which dominated the box office last week, secured the number three spot having earned £3.4 million.

Star Trek Beyond, a new film from the Star Trek series of films, was at the fourth place having grossed £2.3 million last week, and The Secret Life of Pets remained at number five with £730,000.

Finding Dory has already become a special film in the history of animated films, having earned the title of the highest-grossing animated film in the United States alone.

Meanwhile, Jason Bourne topped the US box office having collected a whopping $60 million on its opening weekend.

The 2016 film is Matt Damon’s first appearance as Bourne in 9 years, when the actor starred in 2007 in The Bourne Ultimatum, the third installment of the Bourne series.

Jeremy Renner, star of The Avengers, starred in the fourth installment of the Bourne series, The Bourne Legacy, four years ago.

Damon is also starring in the upcoming film The Great Wall, which is considered to be the most expensive Chinese film in the history of movies. The choice of the American actor was debated in the Chinese media, with people wondering why an Asian actor wasn’t cast for the role.

With Jason Bourne topping the U.S. box office, last week’s number one, Star Trek Beyond, dropped to the second place having earned $24 million, which is less than a half of what Jason Bourne has earned.

Bad Moms, starring Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, has earned $23.4 million and debuted at number three. The Secret Life of Pets, meanwhile, finished at number four having earned $18.2 million.

Lights Out, the most recent horror film, took the fourth place having earned $10.8 million.

Jason Bourne is a record breaking film for Matt Damon, who plays the most dangerous former operative of the CIA, as the actor says only 288 words in the entire film, as counted by film critics. The 45 lines are spread through the 2-hour long film.
